The City of Charlottetown and Nature PEI partnered to host a month-long BioBlitz celebrating and documenting the biodiversity found throughout Charlottetown. Community members of all ages and experience levels were encouraged to participate, including families, nature enthusiasts, and experts.
Participants used the free iNaturalist app to photograph and record wild plants, animals, fungi, and insects found in Charlottetown. Their observations were automatically added to the BioBlitz project on iNaturalist, helping researchers and local nature organizations better understand and document local biodiversity. Over the course of the month, the project received 2,111 observations of 600 species from 121 observers.
