Establishing a secure, resilient food system is a key facet of climate action. Household food insecurity is high in Prince Edward Island and the local food system has several notable vulnerabilities. The Island has a tenuous link to the mainland via bridge and ferry that are regularly closed due to high winds and extreme weather events, an issue which will be exacerbated by climate change. The impacts of climate change will also shift the growing season, water availability, and prevalent agricultural pests on the Island. Simultaneously, food production, transportation, processing, and waste are all contributors to GHG emissions.
