7.2 Increase Charlottetown's urban canopy with a focus on planting species native to the Wabanaki-Acadian Forest region

The implementation of the Goals and Actions under this theme will contribute to completing the following targets set by the Province of PEI’s 2040 Net Zero Framework:

• Remove carbon through forestry, technology, and emerging opportunities. Increasing carbon sequestration 10-15% by 2030 and 25-30% by 2040
• Increase forest cover in ecologically sensitive areas – a minimum of 30% forest cover in all watersheds by 2040

and goals set by the Province of PEI’s Climate Adaptation Plan:

• ACTION 20: Safeguard Surface Water Resources
• ACTION 23: Protection for Climate-Vulnerable Species and Habitats
• ACTION 24: Enhancement of Trees and Forests
