The Active Transportation Plan, adopted November 25, 2025, contains detailed design guidance for Active Transportation infrastructure. Additionally, the City of Charlottetown is working with a consultant engineering firm to develop Municipal Design Guidelines to establish minimum standards for the design of municipal infrastructure, including active transportation infrastructure. The document outlines not only the standards for active transportation facilities but also the broader design principles and philosophy that will guide the development of infrastructure within the City of Charlottetown. The guidelines promote a “Pedestrian First” approach and an All Ages and Abilities (AAA) Bikeway framework, ensuring streets and pathways are safe and accessible for all users. This will also serve as a resource for new development and retrofits. Adoption of this plan is anticipated by late fall 2026.
